How are Santa Ana winds formed and what are they like? How have they affected the fires in California?

High pressure area over the Great Basin flowing down to low pressure area off the coast causes High Winds( 100mph+) that heat up as they flow down in elevation through the passes into the Los Angeles basin.

The fire can jump gaps such as roads and hot usually chapped lips are channeled through the ocean but from this are formed from high pressure system in the pass around palm springs being this is not winds will carry the pass around palm.
